Dr Haji Mohd Rasid HUSSIN is currently a Professor in Risk Management (FIRST PROFESSOR IN RISK MANAGEMENT in Malaysia) and Full-Time Lecturer at the College of Business (COB), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Kedah Darul Aman, MALAYSIA. Before joining UUM, he was an Associate Professor in Risk Management and Full-Time Lecturer at the Faculty of Business Management (FBM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan, MALAYSIA with an employment record of about 24 years of service since 1986.
Mohd Rasid HUSSIN holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Business Administration from Indiana State University (ISU), Terre Haute, Indiana, United States of America (USA) and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Risk Management and Insurance from Golden Gate University (GGU), San Francisco, California, USA. In addition, he obtained his PhD (Doctoral Degree) in Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom (UK).
To his credit, Mohd Rasid HUSSIN is the First Person in ASIA (ASEAN included) to have obtained an MSc in Risk Management and Insurance, and also a PhD in Risk Management, a rare area of specialization which is of special interest and importance to all businesses and industries worldwide today. His doctoral thesis entitled ‘An examination of responses to risk in ASEAN Industry and Commerce’ which incorporated a regional survey on ASEAN major corporations, is in fact, an international scholarly research work which is indeed a highly useful source of reference for companies and organizations to gain further insight into the Risk Management practices of major corporations in the ASEAN Industry and Commerce.
It is also important to note that Dr Haji Mohd Rasid Hussin, together with fellow researcher, Associate Professor Dr Hj Ahmad Shukri YAZID, Lecturer and Dean, Faculty of Business Management and Accountancy (FBMA), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) formerly known as Universiti Darul Iman Malaysia (UDM) at Terengganu Darul Iman, MALAYSIA and also Ahmad Rizal RAZALI, Research Assistant of FBMA, UDM, have successfully completed a Comprehensive Study on “Risk Management Best Practices among the Public Limited Companies (PLCs) in MALAYSIA” (the first study of its kind in Malaysia) in 2008.
Such a study was fully funded by the Government of MALAYSIA under the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) through the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and serves as another useful source of reference and guideline for companies and organizations to gain further insight into the Risk Management Best Practices among the PLCs comprising major corporations under the Main Board of BURSA MALAYSIA.
With regard to industrial experience, Professor Dr Haji Mohd Rasid HUSSIN started his career in the Insurance Industry of MALAYSIA since 1974.
After joining UiTM, he has presented scholarly researched papers at numerous seminars and conferences on Risk Management and Insurance in particular at national and international levels including ASEAN and the ASIAN regions.
Major international conferences worldwide include those high-profile conferences organized by the Federation of Asia-Pacific and African Risk Management Organizations (FAPARMO) and the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA), currently the World’s Leading Academic Association on Risk Management and Insurance.
